TOP 5 ICONIC WITCH HAIRSTYLES PACKED WITH “WICKED” FALL INSPIRATION!
HELL YES! My favorite season has arrived! The weather has reached peak cozy temps, the landscape is photo perfection, every streaming service has launched their horror collection, I can’t keep my hands off anything that smells like a campfire, and, the BEST part of this season; the unshakeable urge for a HAIR CHANGE UP! To save you googling “fall hair trends 2020”, I’ve compiled a list of 5 iconic Hollywood witches sure to inspire your next style move. THESE are the fall “it girls”, combining edge, and earth tones,…….and of course a bit of magic.
1. Lisle von Rhoman from Death Becomes Her (1992)
“Siempre Viva…..Live Forever!!!” You know what I think can live forever? That rich, deep chocolate, chic, chin length bob of hers! 2020 has been all about low maintenance, classic, clean lines that grow out well since getting to the salon has been much harder for many of us. This bob covers all those bases, PLUS if you’re looking to transition this hair from day to night, try switching from a middle part to a deep side part, and POOF! Instant drama.
2. Eva Ernst/Grand High Witch from The Witches (1990)
“Who spoke?! Who dares to argue with me?” Want a “grand high” look that will command a room? Go big, and get those bangs I know you’ve been thinking about trying! Bangs are a great way to update a look, enhance bone structure, bring out the eyes, or even conceal deepening lines of recession at the hairline. They can vary in length and drama, plus they work with almost every length of hair.
3. Alexandra Medford, Sukie Ridgemont, & Jane Spofford from The Witches of Eastwick (1987)
This iconic trio perfectly rocks all the coveted hair colors. All three know how to cast a spell, AND expertly own their swoon worthy curls! Each year I’m asked about current hair trends, and I have to say, 2020 is 100% the year of embracing and enhancing what you’ve got. Now, I’m not saying to run to the salon and get an 80s perm, but what I AM saying is, if your hair is naturally curly, its time to make friends with a microfiber towel, a cocktail of curl products, and a diffuser for your hairdryer…..your hair can never be too big!!
4. Nancy Downs, Sarah Bailey, Bonnie, & Rochelle from The Craft (1996)
Ok, so, theres not much magic happening haircut and color wise here, but what these 90s witches have on lockdown is the ability to accessorize, and make sure their hair defies the complacency of their school girl uniforms. We’ve got messy pigtails, and a barrette sandwiched between some serious air-dried and textured perfection! On those days in between washing, scrunch some texture spray and dry shampoo into long locks to give them beachy “I’m too cool to give a shit” waves. Or, if your hair is beyond being saved by more product, try a polished ponytail (or two), don a knotted headband in a swank fabric (think silk or velvet), or slick your hair over and secure it in place with a decorative clip. The looks from this film require minimal effort, but yield memorable cool.
5. Stevie Nicks ……because duh.
So, Stevie is not technically a witch, however she IS a huge style icon for true Wiccans, and all those passionate about the mystical and fantastical. She has brought long velvet dresses, scarves, and capes onto the stage, and into the mainstream rock world, but what I’m most here for is her noteworthy shag hairstyle. With just the right amount of texture, wave, and even frizz, Goddess Stevie is the perfect inspiration for heavy face framing bangs and layers that scream to be paired with a tambourine, and shaken as you spin in circles to the beat. Or ditch the tam, and pair it with some vintage high-waisted jeans and embody the magical “it girl” you were destined to be.
Check back next month for more of my hair musings, and until then,
Stay warm and spooky, everyone!
